Biometrics Completed! ✅ Find out the next steps in your Canada PR application process and how long it takes to get approval.

Applying for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) is an exciting yet complex process. Once you’ve submitted your biometrics, you may be wondering—what happens next? How long will it take before you receive a decision on your PR application? In this article, GO GLOBAL IMMIGRATION SERVICES will guide you through the next steps after biometrics submission, the expected processing time, and how to track your Canada PR application status.

Step 1: Acknowledgment of Biometrics Submission

After you provide your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre (VAC), the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will update your application. You should receive an acknowledgment letter confirming that your biometrics have been received.

Processing Tip: You can track your biometrics status by logging into your IRCC online account.

Step 2: Background Check & Application Processing

Once biometrics are submitted, IRCC begins processing your PR application by verifying your background details, which includes:

Criminality Check – Ensuring you have no criminal records. Medical Examination Review – Confirming you meet Canada’s health standards. Security Clearance – Checking for any security concerns.  Eligibility Assessment – Reviewing your work experience, education, and documents.

Estimated Time: The background check may take weeks to months, depending on the complexity of your case.

Step 3: Additional Document Requests (If Needed)

Sometimes, IRCC may request additional documents to support your PR application. These may include:

✔ Updated proof of funds ✔ Additional employment records ✔ Clarifications on travel history ✔ Any missing identity documents

Processing Tip: Always respond quickly to IRCC’s requests to avoid delays.

Step 4: Decision on Your PR Application

Once all background checks and eligibility reviews are successfully completed, IRCC will make a final decision on your PR application. If approved, you will receive:

Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) – This document confirms that you have been granted Canada PRPassport Request (PPR) for Visa Stamping – If you applied from outside Canada, you’ll need to submit your passport to receive your Canada PR visa.

Processing Tip: Once you receive COPR, you must travel to Canada before it expires and complete your landing process.

How to Track Your PR Application Status?

You can track your PR application progress online:

🔹 IRCC Online Portal – Log in to check real-time updates on your case.

🔹 Application Status Checker – Use your Application Number on the IRCC website

🔹 Email Notifications – IRCC may send important updates via email.

Processing Tip: If your application takes longer than usual, you can submit a web form inquiry to IRCC for an update.
